Dear friends!

The National Partnership of Microfinance Market Stakeholders (NAMMS) and the Russian Microfinance Center are happy to invite you and your colleagues to the VIII National Conference «The Role of Microfinance in Overcoming the Financial and Economic Crisis» to take place on November 17-19, 2009 in Moscow.

We invite international institutions, representatives of financial cooperatives, members of the banking community, private and non-profit microfinance institutions, branchless banking operators, government, and all stakeholders concerned about access to financial services to attend the Conference.

Following an established tradition, the Conference will feature presentations by guest speakers, such as the Russian policy-makers, legislators and regulators, representatives of the Grameen Bank (Bangladesh), UN, the World Bank, international associations of microfinance providers and financial cooperatives, raters and development agencies, as well as investors with a focus on microcredit programs.

About the Conference
This year, the main theme of the Conference will be the role of SME lending and microfinance in overcoming the current financial and economic crisis. The Conference plenary will highlight issues such as policy incentives for microfinance, priority areas for government support of microfinance, and the strategy of encouraging business startups by the unemployed as a way to create employment and to increase household income. All practical implications of the new legislation on credit cooperatives and microfinance will be discussed in detail during Conference sessions involving officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Central Bank of Russia, and other authorities. A separate discussion will cover the government support of microfinance, the challenges faced by the finance and credit system in these times of crisis, and ways of attracting private investment and savings to increase capitalization of the national microfinance system.

Traditionally, the Conference agenda will consist of plenaries, discussions, training sessions, and free debates. This year, the Investor Fair will allow institutions to approach investors in the best possible environment for one-on-one negotiations. The Conference will also feature master classes led by the microfinance community leaders, round tables with representatives of government, training events for regional networks and brainstorming sessions for MFI. The Conference emphasizes informal contacts, so you will be offered every opportunity for networking throughout the Conference.

Participation in the Conference is the best way to learn about microfinance innovations and to discuss pressing issues faced by providers of retail finance.
